Toronto’s Zero-Waste Pioneers

In 2016, Nikki Self and Christian von Seydlitz launched Saponetti from their garage as Toronto’s first online refill delivery service. By 2018, it had grown into a storefront in Bloordale.

The idea came from somewhere real. Growing up camping through Northern BC, Nikki saw firsthand the environmental damage that shapes how you think about consumption. Christian shares that mindset, and together they built Saponetti around it.

The goal was never just to reduce waste. It was to build a system that makes sense. Refillable containers that circulate instead of being discarded. Products sourced locally. Ingredients chosen for both performance and health.

It hasn’t been the easiest path. Reuse is more complex than single-use and it requires a little extra effort. But it works. Customers return their empties, containers are cleaned and refilled, and over time, people spend less than they would buying single-use packaging again and again. What keeps this going isn’t hype. It’s consistency.

Today, Saponetti is both a neighbourhood shop and a delivery service, making low-waste living practical, not aspirational. Visit us in Bloordale.

 

Our Mission

Saponetti is both an online shopping portal and a neighbourhood refill station in Bloordale. Since 2016, we’ve been helping Torontonians cut single-use plastic and choose healthier, more sustainable options for their homes by focusing on four key commitments:

• Reduce single-use plastic with reusable jars and jugs

• Emphasize clean, safe, Canadian-made products

• Support wellbeing for people and the planet

• Turn eco-anxiety into positive collective action

 

The circular economy

Saponetti is committed to expanding the Circular Economy – a model that augments sharing and leasing, and reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling which extends the life cycle of products. The results of the circular economy are:

  • Fewer raw materials consumed
  • Less waste created
  • Fewer emissions in the atmosphere and our lungs

Ultimately a healthier, more sustainable, eco-friendly future for humankind and the planet.

Saponetti is a pioneer of eco-sustainable products in the Greater Toronto Area. Our goal is to educate, motivate and inspire individuals and businesses, locally and nationally, of how we all can rekindle a healthy symbiotic relationship with our planet.
